Buying a used car – I know nothing about cars?

I recently passed my test and so I want to buy a used car, but I don’t really know much about buying cars. Can you give me any tips or websites that could help me with things like what I should be looking for, what sort of questions I should ask, etc.

Thanks

    find a car u like…..do some research to make sure its a decent model….then BEFORE u buy it have a qualified CERTIFIED mechanic (not some one u know or so-in-so knows) do an inspection……will usually run about $150 but well worth it in time and money……

    A massive subject and in truth you need someone with you who knows the buying process and what to look out for mechanically and electrically

    the first thing you need to do no matter what car you’re interested in is have it checked out by a mechanic before you buy it. I have a vehicle in my shop right now like that. the customer thought he got a deal. 10 year old vehicle only 75,000 miles but he brought it in after he bought it only to find he needs to put $1,500 into repairs before he can trust it

    Hire an independent vehicle inspector to check out what you might like. You can prob hire a negotiator to do the buy for you. There will always be another one, so don’t rush to get any particular vehicle-salesmen don’t have your interests at heart. They are they to MAKE sales. They are very good at getting ppl to part with their cash, and common sense. Be suspicious, take notes, use a tape recorder, double check-it’s your money, MAKE them earn it. Get everything in writing, or it’s not worth anything. Get your own finance-it’s always cheaper, and you don’t get caught on a failed application and subject to ridiculous 2nd choice interest or being made to return the car.

    one that has been well maintained and kept in in original stock condition.
    look for oil leaks, always test drive, make sure everything works and then think about it.

    Hey boy! I know less than you do about cars! Well aint that a bummer! Lucky for me I have a cousin who is an automobile engineer – so I get him to check out shit before I buy!

    You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

    find a knowledgeable relative or friend to help you, car sellers love to take advantage of people

    First you should decide what you will use the car for
    1) do you haul a lot of stuff/
    2) do you haul a lot of people?
    3) do you need 4wd?

    Next you find a vehicle you like.
    you test drive it.

    1) is the motor or exhaust noisy?
    2) does it drive and stop straight?
    3) does everything work?

    If it’s old enough to be out of warranty… you spend 100.00 at your trusted mechanic, to have him look it over…

    If you decide to buy;

    1) call your insurance agent..
    2) call the credit union to arrange financing..
    3) decide what you think the car is worth…

    At the car dealer;
    1) take your down payment with you (20%)
    2) make your first offer 10-20% lower than what you want to pay…
    3) hopefully they will take your second offer, which is what you want…
    $) take home car, or walk out the door…
