Lucky Star was directed by Michael Mann and stared Benicio Del Toro. This two and half minute film was built as spoof film trailer and was shown in cinemas and TV in the UK in the summer of 2002. For those eagle eyed viewers there was a web address on the last scene of the film where some more information was given about the film- but this was taken down shortly after the airing. i personally think that this was Mercedes Benz reaction to bmw’s ‘Hire’ series of films that were released on the net in 2001 rather than their “It’s not a commercial selling that car, it’s talking about the whole excitement and dynamism of the brand” statement”.
I remember seeing this years ago….still good
I would be very grateful for a transcription or subtitles for this trailer.
when i first saw this i thought it was a movie !but i wondered why it was never released!!!!! i feel stupid now!!!
i think Mann is a genius but I can’t stand his open shutter (360 degree shutter) cinematography. It drives me nuts cause I can’t ever get “into” the movie. I am constantly aware of the fact that I’m watching digital video. Heat was his last great film…
I hope Michael Mann makes this film, one day. I saw it on TV years ago and told all my friends about “this awesome new film with Benicio Del Toro in it!”. I was really gutted when I found it it’s just some Mercedes ad. I hope Mann makes the film soon, it’d be great.
Stealth Marketing Quite clever.
Postmodernity, as manifested in art, should have a degree of reflexivity, elements of patische/parody and also some textual (medium) innovation. Mann is wonderful director, one of my favs. But his films are not post-modern.
@anglo2001 ..historically speakin’ all art expressed after the modernism-era is post-modern, but everybody calls it contemporary art.
Anywaythis commercial is great, you can really tell the miami vice visual signature, love it
Cinematography??? Analyse??? Come on… it’s just a bloody commercial gone grand!!! I don’t like the digital technique used by Michael Mann lately. And I’ll say it again: I think “The Hire” BMW series were much better.
piece of shit?..pffff cinematography is obviously hard to analyse for you
Does anybody know the ‘music’ OR who directed the current Mercedes Benz E Class commercial? It looks very Michael Mann ‘esque…kinda a HEAT or Collateral vibe…
how the hell is MM postmodern? jackass
so many adverts do the whole movie trailer spy guy thing. i wish they all had benicio in them though…

One of the best postmodern directors!!!
i love Michael Mann!
Genius?? You fool, Mercades blatently ripped off BMW with this nonesense. The BMW ads were far superior.
This is genius, could you be more incorrect!
The 2001 BMW movie-styled ads were much better than this piece of shit… And a year earlier also, by the way.
You do realize that Kagami and Akira will eat you alive, right??
(LMAO, Minoru probably drives one already.)
dont suppose any 1 knows were i can get a transcript of this advert rather than me writin it down lol
iz for a english language essay,
Mercedes wanted to launch its new SL 500 in the market and reposition it by targeting young successful people. They came up with this trailer as an advert which was then covered in national tv news and magazines. In the same year, Mercedes had achievd their record sales.
No it was only an advert, I was so disappointed when I found out.
is this movie out? in theatres or can i buy the dvd??? plz tell me i wana see this movie soo frekin badly!! thnx
Mann secured the rights to make this into a full length movie years ago, so maybe one day…
if they were to make a film right now they would be in the money, considering the world stock markets are in turmoil and it would be inspirational, oh well yes I do want them to make a movie – Brad Pitt in the lead. Sam Fisher – George Clooney? Or is it just me?
Finally someone who agrees with me! For years I have been saying Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro have a striking resemblance and noone has agreed with me! Thank you – finally someone who agrees, there was talk of turning it into a movie as Mercedes have given Michael Mann the option to make it into a movie but not sure why he is letting the script be covered by pus as he is sitting on it, Its only had like, a few years advertisement. Dah!
