DETROIT—Amid signs Rick Santorum could win an upset victory in Michigan, Mitt Romney escalated his campaign to win the state’s Republican primary by taking on the powerful auto union and reigniting the debate over the federal bailouts of two Detroit auto makers.Mr. Romney, writing in a Detroit News editorial-page column Tuesday, attacked as “crony capitalism on a grand scale” the Obama administration’s $81 billion auto-industry bailout nearly three years ago. @archonsnumber1 Agreed. I dont know how Santorum has all of a sudden became the darling of the tea party anyway, considering his voting record. I agree with Romney’s position on the auto bailouts. Ford refused a gov’t bailout and they were still able to restructure and rebound, so why couldn’t GM and Chrysler? GM and? Chrysler were having problems long before 2008. Chrysler was even bailed out once before in 1980. Bailouts have no place in a free market.

Fact is, the American auto industry was in trouble long before the financial crisis in 2008. This was Chrysler’s second government bailout, as they were bailed out the first time way back in 1980. If an auto company makes shitty cars nobody wants to buy or gas guzzlers when gas prices are rising, they should expect to have problems, especially when they are weighed down with union demands. Hopefully, the? big three can continue to have success and not make the same mistakes they made in the past.

Romney is an obvious success. Lets get behind him and make America a success. Anyone who understands economics agrees with Romney’s quote to let the auto companies go bankrupt. Let the free market be free. The problem is that many Americans are not smart enough to understand the benefits of free market.
