I am 16 years old and am in the process of buying a 2002 Ford Focus . I had a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire a few months back ( hand-me-down from mom ) but I am very uneducated about cars, so my engine blew . I want to keep the car Im saving for in good shape . So does anyone have any pointers or any regular maintenance that needs to be kept up on ? I’d really appreciate any tips . Thank you
The manual in the glove box will give you a schedule at 5, 10, 20K miles and so on.
Obviously, check your oil weekly, change your oil regularly, and check your radiator monthly to keep from blowing your engine.
Check the tyre pressures at least once a fortnight, and have a look at the state of the treads while you’re doing it.
Check the oil level and the coolant water level once a month (weekly’s a bit much – a ’02 car shouldn’t be burning much oil). While you’re at it, switch on all the lights including the hazards, and walk round checking the bulbs. You can check the brake lights by parking in front of a wall and seeing the reflection.
Get it serviced as recommended in the owner’s guide. I get mine done once a year. They ought to at least change the oil and filter, the air and fuel filters, spark plugs, and check brake linings.
Some people like to change the oil more often than that. I myself can’t be bothered. And I don’t do it myself, it’s a messy fuss of a job – much rather pay someone else to do it!
Oil always be on mark or earlier alot of engine internals sieze
because of ppl dont change their oil when they should or just dont think
it matters, not only does it get dirty and leave deposits everywhere, it looses
lubrication and your now having your pistons scrape on your cylinder walls..
transmission fluid 50-70,000 km,
timing belt never let it go past the recomended date to change, if its one thing you
really wanna watch its the timing belt schedule because if you fail to change it ever
the belt will snap and your engine will be seized up just like that.
sparks 100,000 km on platinums.. ealier for reg plugs..
My advice would be: watch your FLUIDS.
Not only oil, but transmission oil, glycol, and power steering fluid, and brake fluid too.
Get advice and double check that you have the right oil, and the right tranny oil.
hhonestly dont buy a ford focus they are REALLY BAD
but tips WHEN you get the car get an oil change and change the oil on time usually every 5000KM
make sure radiator has water and put antifreeze in the winters.
keep ur tire pressures right and make sure your shocks are in good condition
