Stamford Classic Car Rally 2010 plus my Dad’s 1962 Wolseley 1500

My dad bought his Wolseley 1500 secondhand in the late ’70′s and for a while it was used as the family car. It was garaged for some time, then in the 1990′s he completely dismantled it and restored it to its original condition. Ever since, he has driven many miles in it attending classic car shows.

@fehquig Thanks Andy. Yes, Dad’s certainly spent a lot of time and money on the car in the past, but it’s his pride and joy and continues to give him pleasure when he gets to chat about cars to people at these rallies. Somebody offered to give him £2000 for it, but naturally he refused. Still, not bad for a car he paid just £30 for!

I enjoy car shows when I can get to them, and what I liked about this one is that a lot of the cars are unfamiliar models since they were never sold in this country… Your dad put a labor of love into his old car, and that’s something to enjoy and be proud of.
    Nice wheels, Rob!

@tonightwefly Thanks very much. I took more video, but it can soon get a bit boring to people who aren’t fans :-)

Very nice video!!!! I too was there and really enjoyed it!!

@RobNorthampton It’s all politics, Rob. I live not more than 20 miles from the 11th highest producing oil refineries in the country, however, nearly 85% of the fuels they refine is exported to Canada. So we have to import our petrol from other countries, which is more expensive and highly taxed. It’s been this way since George W. Bush changed our energy policy, following 9/11. Even though the prices have gone down some, people are too complacent to do anything to change it.

@TeenTwinkTween You made me curious, so I looked at current prices in both countries. I was surprised how much US gas prices have gone up in comparison to ours. We used to pay nearly twice as much, but as of today, average prices seem to only be about 40c cheaper over there.

@genmama1955 I like to look at them, but I guess I probably would never have visited a show before if my dad didn’t have a passion for them. He can strip an engine to pieces and put it back together. I can just about remember to put petrol in and check the windscreen washer bottle once in a while :-)

@RobNorthampton Wow, some of those were very nice, including your dad’s. Oh man, I would love to have a big car with the PAN registration, but not for long! I don’t think I could afford to fill the petrol tank. LOL :)

Great classic car show. I love them! Our town has one every year, but it’s smaller.I don’t go any more because I think I’ve seen most cars year after year. Besides, many of the owners drive their classic cars in town once in a while. I would love to go to a classic car show in England!

@RobNorthampton Our neighbor has a ’61 Jaguar and is keeping it mint. He has slowly come around to Fred and his bikes, so they went to a car show together in San Jose. Fred came home and said “That guys such a snob, everyone there was cool except him”, lol, Not your old fella tho, looks like he’s got lots of things to appreciate at his rallies. I love the type of car he chose to restore too, a little pride, some elbow grease, that’s all it takes! Those cars are gorgeous, tho and I want!!

@BryanAndBaileysZen You’re right of course, but honestly, I was trying to get him out of shot and he kept moving into it! If I hadn’t already seen him with a girlfriend, I’d have sworn he wanted his ass filmed! Lol

  12. RobNorthampton says:

@BryanAndBaileysZen Yeah Bryan, it’s a Mini Cooper, the same as the ones used in ‘The Italian Job’ with Michael Caine. They seem to have a cult following. I dated a girl once who had one, and it’s not a particularly nice driving experience. Rattley, bare-bones interior, and despite its small size it needs a turning circle you could fit a submarine in! Okay, maybe I exaggerate :-)

@Thomasfiddle Stamford is a 17C town that is largely untouched, and has many old stone buildings in its centre. It was used in the series ‘Middlemarch’. I think all they had to do was hide the street furniture and throw dirt on the roads! :-)
My dad spent some of his childhood there, but hated it. It was to his young mind, very drab and conservative. We only appreciate the grandeur as we get older, I think. I hope you manage another trip over soon :-)

@kern0099 It was a good show, Adam. I don’t go to many of them, but show up sometimes if my dad is in the area. Stamford is about an hour’s drive from home, so I took a drive over because it was a nice day. I think the weather always helps the turnout. My dad loves going, to show his car, and to look around at the others and chat to the owners. I’m happy he’s still able to get about and enjoy his hobby. My brother-in-law ended up with his Mini because his uncle runs a business restoring them.

  15. RobNorthampton says:

@TeenTwinkTween There were some cars that even I hadn’t seen before, Justin. The long one with the ‘PAN’ reg reminded me of Cruella DeVille’s car. I could see myself cruising around in that! LOL

  16. BryanAndBaileysZen says:

hot tight ass on that dude at 7:26 yeah the one thats in every shot you took lol

  17. BryanAndBaileysZen says:

is that white car a Cooper I would love one of those

This video makes me long for a trip to England. You have so much of the old things left. I still have many detailed memories of a steam rally i Dorset that I visited in the eighties. Even the town in the background stired up memories of England, which I have neglected badly for many years. Thanks for posting!

  19. kern0099 says:

Nice autos, Rob. I didn’t realize your family was into that kind of hobby. Looks like a nice day out! Around here, it’s Freddy and his Harley Davidsons. He has three, and treats them better than me! (well, sometimes), ;-)

Cool! Some of those cars remind me of the James Bond movies. lol. But fun to look at none the less.
